soft + cozy - warm + fuzzy - these are the words that come to mind when i tie this lovely scarf around my neck. my love of dyeing with natural materials brought me to the use of cochineal and the amazing array of red to pink tones that can be achieved with this ancient dye material.
cochineal is one of the most precious of natural dyes and is derived from dactylous coccus that feeds on the nopal cactus in the arid areas of Mexico, Peru, Chile and the Canary Islands. It is one of the only natural red colorants.
