#1025 - Indigo arashi shibori silk scarf
this silk charmeuse scarf is buttery soft. The binding technique used is called ‘arashi shibori’ in Japanese, which translates to ‘storm’ and when i look at this piece, I see the turbulent skies just before a storm strikes. Each pattern is unique and is determined by the way the fabric is wrapped and bound on a pole prior to dyeing.
style: arashi shibori - bound-resist technique
dimensions: 14” x 72”
material: 100% silk charmeuse
finish: finished rolled hem
care: hand wash in cool water with a mild neutral soap (I like olive oil soap) – hang to dry – iron on silk setting
each scarf is a unique art piece; hand bound or stitched and dyed by me in my studio
this scarf has been dyed in a natural indigo vat, which leads to the variation and depth of color
blue is one of nature’s rarest colors. Indigo, a dye obtained from a variety of plants, the most widely used plant is Indigofera tinctoria. The shrub grows wild and is cultivated in tropical areas throughout the world. For nearly five millennia, in every culture worldwide, indigo has been one of the world’s most valued pigments.
